Vacuum frequently and thoroughly. Most of the wear of carpeting is caused by dirt. Oily soils attract more oily soil and frequent vacuuming will reduce soil buildup. Vaccum N to S then E to W at least 3 times a week and every day in high traffic areas..
Get at stains quickly, most stains can be removed by simply water and blotting with white towel if they are cleaned immediately. The longer a stain is left to chemically react with the carpet, the harder it will be to remove it.
Never ever scrub or rub. Always use a blotting action even placing a damp white towel on area and placing heavy books or the like on top, leave and allow transfer to take place , checking to see if removal is occuring.
Avoid off the shelf spotters and stain removers, often these will set the stain and on most occasions will leave a bleaching effect in your carpet. Do not over use detergents or shampoos. Too much detergent will result in residual left in the carpet that even thorough vacuuming may not remove. This causes rapid resoiling of the area.
Your questions ? Is it true that once I have my carpets cleaned, they will re-soil faster thereafter?
No, not if the carpet is properly cleaned. Actually a properly cleaned carpet will look clean longer and even last longer. It is a lot easier to keep a carpet looking clean than to neglect it to the point of it looking soiled and then cleaning it. At that point you have to use stronger cleaners and more agitation. Improper cleaning, where residues from cleaning agents are left in the carpet can cause rapid re-soiling
Will you remove all the spots and stains from my carpets?
|Most of your soils and spills will clean with my regular cleaning. Of course, regular cleaning will not remove stains caused by colour loss or change because of bleach spills, dyes, medications or pet urine etc. Some carpets can have discoloration because of wear or fading, or color change from shading, oxidation or other causes. No Guarantee could ever be given as to the complete removal of all stains, many factors effect the outcome. However most can be removed and even the worst can be improved.
What if spots reappear after I have my carpets cleaned?
If I cleaned your carpets for you, you can relax! Even though some spots or spills of unknown origin will clean off the face yarns, the backing and padding might be saturated and will cause it to wick back up to the surface fibers. Even though this rarely happens, if it does, we will come back and clean the spot again. Remember, I want to give you the best cleaning and the best service possible!
Do I need to remove all the furniture?
Not at all, All small items, breakable items should be removed but large items ie. lounge chairs, sofa's etc can stay in the room . I will move accordingly and replace onto plastic or foam tabs, this prevents any chance of rust or wood stain dye transfering onto carpet. These should be removed once the carpet is completely dry.
How often should I have my carpets professionally cleaned?
Major carpet manufacturers recommend at least annually in a typical family home. Cleaning should not be undertaken for the sole reason of them looking dirty.Just because a carpet may not look dirty, dirt is trapped , hidden deep in the pile. This hiden dirt acts like sand paper rubbing away on the fibres causing premature wear.
CARPET PROBLEMS
FILTRATION MARKS Known as Draught marking
Dark line around room perimeter, stair edges, under doorways and drapery. The effect of doors and windows opening, air movement, heating etc. that cause changes in room air pressure. Air is forced into wall cavitie
s or under doors filtering airborne particulate through the carpet fibers. Permanent solution is to seal the walls or floor. Filtration lines are very difficult to clean and can quickly return if the area is not sealed. Interim solution is to spot-clean the problem areas. Picture of a typical draught marking, this is caused by bad fitting due to holes been puntured in backing by fitter using a kicker with the gripping pins set too deep.
CELLULOSIC BROWNING
Spotty brownish appearance in parts of the carpet. Carpet has been over-wet causing vegetable dye that is present wicking back to the surface.
TRAFFIC LANES DISCOLOURATION
Dark areas or graying in areas which receive the highest level of foot traffic. Scratches and abrasions to the fiber (level loop) matting, flaring or tip compression (cut pile). This is not reversible and is not a warranty item. This effect often looks worse when still damp from cleaning, but does improve
OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS
Gradually evolving yellow discoloration. Carpet slowly losing its colour to a yellowish tinge. Ionic optical brighteners are agents used to convert invisible ultraviolet light to visible light, which increases apparent brightness. Ionic optical brighteners found in some cleaning compounds applied to the carpet Avoid use of ionic optical brighteners. Not possible to reverse once damage is done.
.
WATER STAINS
Shows as a lighter area on the carpet surrounded by a darker ring. Occurs when liquid is spilled on the carpet. The spill pushes the contaminants that are present in the carpet to the edge of spill where they dry.
SHADING, POOLING & CARPET NAP REVERSAL
Carpet appears to have different coloured sections. Sometimes looks li
ke a waterline. Fibers in cut pile carpet lie in different directions usually as a result of an installation defect. This is not reversible. Carpet producers do not warranty this. here the colour appears to be darker, if you were to walk around it would appear lighter
REFLECTION & SHADOWS
Carpet has light or dark spots in random locations. Light reflections from a non-obvious light source (e.g. pinholes in draperies, reflection from shiny objects,
Health, Indoor Air Quality.
Asthma and allergies: Although we might not normally associate carpet with improved indoor air quality, it does have a very positive effect. Gravity causes common household particles, such as dust, pollen and pet and insect dander, to fall to the floor. Carpet fibers trap the particles, reducing their continued circulation in the air. Proper cleaning with approved vacuums effectively removes dust and allergens from the carpet, locks them in the machine and helps keep them out of the air we breathe.
A misperception is that people with asthma and allergies should avoid carpet in the home. But much of today’s carpet is made from harmless materials found in clothing and other everyday fabrics, such as polyester, nylon and olefin fibers, which don’t trouble most people.
Carpet as a "TRAP"
Carpet provides an extra benefit as a "trap" or "filter," holding dust and dirt until it can be removed by routine vacuuming with a well- functioning vacuum cleaner. The filter or holding characteristics of carpet, as opposed to a smooth surface floor covering, benefit residents of the home or office by keeping particles of dust from being continually being blown around and airborne in a room by foot traffic and air circulation. Only airborne particles affect the allergic person. major studies suggests that the vacuum cleaner have good suction, adjustable beater bar brushes, an enclosed vacuum bag -- not just a fabric cover-- and that a high filtration, "HEPA" disposable bag be used. This will minimize the dust being circulated back into the room. Of course, it is common sense to say that changing the vacuum cleaner filtration bag often is important to increase efficiency, and that high traffic areas be vacuumed often.
These guidelines for a vacuum cleaner apply whether the floor is hard surface or carpet. However, carpet is the only floor covering product capable of containing particles and preventing them from becoming airborne. This is a real advantage for allergy prone persons. Redistribution of dust is prevented if a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter is used.

To put it simply,
spread some talc or flour onto a laminate floor, drop a book nearby and observe the amount of airborne particles in the air. Do exactly the same with the talc on a carpet, you will notice that the particles are held and trapped in the fibres. So every time a draught from door, or simply walking, the pollutants
are freed into the air if laminate is installed. Carpets are far healthier
